Just Taken Out Your Policy? Here’s What Happens Next

Congratulations! You’ve just taken out your taxi insurance policy with CoverMy.

We know it can feel a little overwhelming at first, so we’ve put together a simple guide to walk you through what happens next and what you need to do to make sure everything runs smoothly.

Step 1: Check Your Welcome Email

Once you have taken out your policy, you’ll receive a welcome email from us containing:

  • Your policy documents
  • Key information

Take a moment to check the details carefully:

  • Your full name (spelling matters!)
  • Vehicle details
  • Your policy start date

Important: If you’ve added any bolt-on policies, these may arrive in a separate email. Keep an eye out so nothing gets missed.

⚠️ Can’t find your email? Check your spam or junk folder first. If it’s still missing or something doesn’t look right, contact us and we’ll make sure everything is corrected.

Step 1.5: Register Your Online CoverMy Account

Once you’ve checked your welcome email, make sure you register your online CoverMy account.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Open your welcome email.
  2. Look for your unique ID and one-time use password.
  3. Go to the CoverMy website ([Insert link]) and use these credentials to create your account.
  4. Set a new secure password that you’ll remember.

Once registered, you can:

  • Access your policy documents anytime

⚠️ Important: Your account must be registered to access full policy documents. Keep your login details safe and don’t share your one-time password with anyone.

Step 2: Check Your Insurance Certificate

Your Taxi Insurance certificate is your official proof of cover. Make sure it is:

  • Correctly issued in your name and for your vehicle
  • Sent to any platform or company you work with (ride-sharing, food delivery apps, etc.)

Some examples:

  • Local council: May need a copy of your certificate to apply for or renew your taxi licence
  • Just Eat / Uber (etc.): Often need a copy of your certificate before you start driving or delivering

Your certificate can always be found in your welcome email, and if you need a certified copy, just let us know, we’ll make sure it’s sent directly to you.

Step 3: Know What Documents You’ll Need

Your welcome email will also list the documents needed to validate your policy. Most commonly, these include:

  • Driving licence
  • Private Hire or Hackney Carriage Driving Licence
  • Private Hire or Hackney Carriage Vehicle Licence

Take a few minutes to read the email carefully so you know exactly what’s required. This ensures your policy is fully validated.

Step 4: Send Us Your Documents

You have 14 days from your policy start date to send us the required documents. You can do this via:

If you’ve applied for a document but are still waiting, don’t worry, just send us proof of application and we’ll make a note on your file.
